PS 15 - Changing the foreground and the background color with Eyedropper Tool

04 January, 2014

When you normally select/pick any color it will change the foreground color. For changing the background color you have to click the background color box and choose different color from the color picker. Another way is to set the foreground color and press the 'X' on the keyboard to switch the foreground to background and then select the color again.

But without touching the color picker you can directly change the foreground and background color.

Here i have a simple color box with 3 set of colors. For the foreground and background, i have reset them to default black and white.

Select the Eyedropper tool from the toolbar and select any color. You can see the black in the foreground color is changed to the current selection (fig 2.0 - 2).

Now to change the background color, press Alt key in the keyboard. You can see the white background color is changed to rose (fig 2.1)

(fig 2.1)

You can even use the Alt to pick a color from the next window, without selecting that window.

(fig 3.0)

Remember, Alt key will not work on picking the color from the swatches window.

If you select the color with eyedropper tool, normally it will change the foreground color, but if you press alt, the cursor will changed to scissor icon.
